Music Teachers

Vision Through Music® a program of the Children’s Eye Foundation in collaboration with the Academy of Music for the Blind, is actively growing its network of teachers and students. If you’re a skilled music educator wanting to make your teaching more inclusive and expand your market or are an experienced teacher of the blind and low vision students, consider joining our community!

If you have any questions, reach us at contact@visionthroughmusic.org.

I am a music teacher who wants to be trained through Vision Through Music ® to work with visually impaired students.

Through our unique collaboration with the Academy of Music for the Blind, we offer a virtual, live, approximately 6-week teacher training program designed to give you the skills and confidence to create effective learning environments for blind and visually impaired students. We tailor this experience to fit your schedule.

The program is experiential and collaborative by design. You’ll spend the first several weeks building your instructional foundation through core concepts and role-playing exercises, then move into an observation period seeing some of our teachers in action. Plan for roughly 3-4 hours per week, including live class sessions, observation visits, student teaching, and time for reading and reflection.

By the time you complete the training program, you’ll have taught real lessons to blind and low vision students. With exposure to music instruction, these children show improved academic performance and social interaction, and most of them will tell you that their music is the best thing they do.

If you’re ready to expand your teaching practice and make a meaningful difference in the lives of kids, fill out the form below to get started!

Get Trained with VTM

I am a music teacher with 2+ years of experience teaching visually impaired students and want to be added to the Vision Through Music ® teacher registry.

We’re so glad you found us! The VTM Teacher Registry is a free resource connecting passionate and qualified music educators with families of blind and partially sighted students seeking accessible music education. We’d love to have you on board.

To be considered, you must have at least two years of teaching experience in the instrument (including voice) you want to list on the registry. And getting started is simple!

Fill out the intake form below with your contact information, instruments taught, lesson types, location, and a short bio. Our team will review your submission, invite you to an interview and if it’s a good fit we’ll invite you to complete a brief background check to help us maintain a safe and secure environment for everyone in the VTM community.

Once accepted and added to the registry, your profile will be visible to families near and far who are looking for the right teacher for their child. You’ll work directly with students and families to set lesson schedules and compensation rates. If a student ever needs help making that first connection, we’re happy to facilitate.

A note on financial grants: some students in our network receive awards that cover the cost of music lessons and/or a musical instrument for a 26-week period, so your work as an educator can go even further than you might expect.

We can’t wait to welcome you to the VTM community. Let’s make some music!
