2013 Parks Medalists
This year Silver medalist Dr. David Taylor and Bronze medalist Dr. Steven E. Rubin were honored at the Parks Medal Awards ceremony in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. John Baker, the Children’s Eye Foundation’s Treasurer, presented the awards to the deserving recipients at the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS) conference.
This year’s presentation was full of surprises. Dr. Taylor hails from England and as a way to honor his country, the audience greeted him with a sea of waving British flags as he accepted his award. Dr. Taylor was quite pleased with this acknowledgement of his country by the representatives at the AAPOS conference.
After Dr. Taylor received his medal, Dr. Baker revealed one more surprise that CEF had for him and presented him with a letter from
Buckingham Palace. At first, Dr. Taylor thought that it was a joke. He did not think that there was any way that it was an actual letter from the Palace. Dr. Baker explained that in celebration of Dr. Taylor receiving the prestigious Silver Parks Medal the Chairman of CEF, Dr. George Beauchamp, wrote a letter to Her Majesty the Queen of England detailing his extraordinary accomplishment and inviting the Queen to the award presentation. While the Queen’s diary did not permit her to travel to Boston for the award presentation, Buckingham Palace sent a congratulatory letter to Dr. Taylor. Dr. Taylor was thrilled when he was handed the letter.
CEF is proud to award the Parks Medal to these two deserving men.
