Costenbader Award 2013
Dr. Edward Wilson,Jr., MD received the 2013 Costenbader award at the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS) conference in Boston this past April. As a Costenbader award recipient, Dr. Wilson was invited to give the Costenbader Lecture to the general assembly at AAPOS. He presented a paper entitled “A Cut Above the Rest". This paper detailed the current role of vitrectomy in the case of pediatric surgery. This lecture gave much needed insight into methods of treatment.
Dr. WIlson graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina. He did his residency at the National Naval Medical Center and served in a one-year fellowship with Dr. Marshall Parks.
Currently, Dr. Wilson is the Pierre G. Jenkins Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology and the Director of the Albert Florens Storm Eye Institute at the Medical University of South Carolina. He serves an Executive Editor of the American Journal of Ophthalmology and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of AAPOS. Dr. Wilson has had the honor of being invited to give over 500 presentations, published over 200 scientific papers, and has edited two books.
